Title: How to teach communication skills and conduct peer supervision

is being offered by the Graduate School of Health, Aarhus University, Spring 2022.

Criteria for participation: University degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or Master’s degree in other fields and/or postgraduate research fellows (PhD students and research-year medical students).

Aim: The aim of this course is to introduce the participants for pedagogical skills and tools regarding teaching and learning at the graduate level for medical students.

Learning outcomes: It is expected that the participant after the course is able to reflect upon, to plan and conduct communication courses on master level for medical students based on knowledge in educational theories and models such as constructive alignment, Blooms taxonomy and use of Edu-It.

Content: The course content will cover an introduction to learning and teaching theories as well as communication models, exercises and practise on ‘how to teach communication skills’ based on pedagogical reflections on teaching at university level, and will comprise of:

  • Lectures
  • Group exercises
  • Reflection practice
  • Group discussions
  • Reflection on own case material
  • Feedback on agendas and teaching material

Recommended knowledge for participation (if any): Read the syllabus for the course in advance. It is also recommended (expected) that participants brig their own cases (thoughts on former patient encounters)

Participation in the course is without cost for:

  • PhD students, Research Year students and Research Honours Programme students from Aarhus University
  • PhD students enrolled at partner universities of the Nordoc collaboration
  • PhD students from other institutions in the open market agreement for PhD courses
