The course, C190/05 Image diagnostic methods for evaluation of the musculosceletal system, is being offered by the Graduate School of Health, Aarhus University, autumn 2021.
Criteria for participation: University degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or Master’s degree in other fields and/or postgraduate research fellows (PhD students and research-year medical students).
Aim: To educate participants about different image diagnostic methods and their potential for research and clinical investigation of the human body/musculoskeletal system including baseline knowledge on their advantages/limitations and risks (radiation physics, protection and doses/risks).
Contents: Image diagnostic methods for evaluation of the musculoskeletal system including teeth and facial bone i.e. Cone Beam CT, qCT and microCT, high-end CT incl. perfusion technique and dynamic evaluation, PET/CT, SPECT/CT, Radiostereometric Analysis (RSA), Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, MRI, Ultrasound, and in addition theory on radiation physics.
Learning outcome: After completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Understand the most common radiologic methods
- Understand the basic background for methods (physics, instruments)
- Characterize risks of the methods
- Understand the advantages and disadvantages/imitations of the methods
- Obtain inspiration to new methods in research projects
