Course description
Books and dissertations are fundamentally different genres of writing: one is a bespoke document for three experts, the other is a document that will be read by readers from a variety of scholarly backgrounds, interests, and positionalities. This talk will walk you through everything you need to know to propose and publish your first scholarly monograph, whether it's based on your dissertation or upon new research.
Aim/Learning outcomes
In this talk, we will cover topics including: the difference between a dissertation and a monograph; the different kinds of scholarly presses; how to approach an editor; elements of a strong book proposal; types of book contracts and the things you typically can and can't negotiate; publication processes; and marketing your book.
Requirements for participation
Prior to the course, you are welcome to submit anonymous questions, that will then serve as the opening for the following Q&A session.
