Criteria for participation: University degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or master’s degree in other fields and/or postgraduate research fellows (PhD students and research-year medical students).
Requirements for participation: The course targets PhD students across all GPs of the Graduate School of Health. The participants are required to have produced a draft manuscript based on their own scientific work prior to the initiation of the course. Note that applicants using quantitative methodology in their research are given preference over applicants using qualitative methodology (due to the experience of the instructors).
Aim: The aim of this course is to improve the participants’ chances of publishing the results of their research in international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Learning outcomes: After the course, the participants should:
- Have a basic knowledge of most aspects of the publication process in health research
- Have improved their writing skills
- Have learned how to perform peer-review
Workload: The full workload of the course is expected to be 40 hours
Content: The course will focus on improving the participants’ draft manuscripts (see “Requirements for participation”). These drafts will be discussed in detail during workshop sessions (groups of 4 participants). On each of the three days, there will be two inspirational lectures given by the faculty or invited guests – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Some of the themes of the lectures will be as follows: “Ethical aspects of publishing”, “Writing good cover letters, abstracts and appeals”, “Choosing a target journal”, “How to peer-review manuscripts”, and “Nurture your publications”.
Between the course days, the participants must work on their draft manuscripts and review three of the other participants’ manuscripts, providing written feedback.
