Course description

In the workshop, we bring together PhD students and early-career researchers with a connection to or interest in the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS) and provide an opportunity to present their research projects for critical and constructive discussion. The ambition is thus both to offer a venue for presenting and discussing research but also to build a foundation for stronger research networks across different institutions in the Danish STS Community.

The workshop has two sections.

In the first section, PhD students and ECRs will be assigned to “feedback clusters” led by one or two of the course lecturers. Here, PhD students and ECRs will give brief presentations of their research projects followed by constructive group discussions across disciplines and research interests. Each PhD student or ECR will act as primary discussant to another presenter before we open the floor for general discussion. More information will follow after the deadline.

In the second section, the course lecturers facilitate “thematic clusters,” where PhD students and ECRs with overlapping research interests get an opportunity to meet other people from the Danish STS environment and cultivate new relations across departments, schools, faculties, and universities. These clusters will be focussed on informal discussions shaped by the participants.

The day ends with an informal dinner.

The workshop is organized by the Danish Association of Science and Technology Studies (DASTS) in collaboration with the STS Centre, Aarhus University.

Aim/Learning outcomes

  • The workshop provides an opportunity to learn about, discuss, and critically engage with a variety of themes, theories, methods, and projects in Science and Technology Studies through peer presentations and feedback.
  • The workshop facilitates interdisciplinary discussion and collaboration among PhD students and early-career researchers in the Danish STS community.
  • The workshop cultivates connections across institutions in the Danish STS community to support existing research networks or build new ones for the benefit of PhD students and ECRs.

Requirements for participation

To register, PhD Students are asked to submit a project description (maximum 3 pages) that outlines their PhD project with a focus on their key research interests and questions. Please also include a section that reflects on how your work engages with STS (thematically, theoretically, methodologically…) and a set of three keywords that describes the most central themes in your work.
