Applicants are initially placed on a waiting list. Seats are allocated after application deadline.

The course P126/19 Analysis of variance and repeated measurements is being offered by the Graduate School of Health, Aarhus University, fall 2025.

Criteria for participation: University degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or Master’s degree in other fields and/or postgraduate research fellows (PhD students and research-year medical students).

Requirements for participation: Participation in the course requires completion of Basic Biostatistics part 1 and 2 or similar. The statistical program R will be used throughout the course but help will be provided to users of Stata.

Aim: To give the participants an introduction to Analysis of Variance with focus on repeated measures in experimental studies, and to enable the participants to choose a relevant statistical analysis of own data.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Document and process data for a statistical analysis of repeated measurements.
  2. Choose a relevant statistical model for a given research question and evaluate the assumptions behind the ANOVA or repeated measurement analysis.
  3. Perform ANOVA, variance component analysis or repeated measurement analysis based on the chosen model.
  4. Describe the results of the statistical analysis, and discuss the results in relation to the scientific question.
  5. Be aware of the limitations of the statistical methods presented in the course.

Workload: The full workload of the course is expected to be 125 hours

Content:

After the initial four days where the statistical methods are presented and exercises are solved, the course continues on a fifth day reserved for supervision in connection with the analysis of own data followed by an oral presentation on day six.

  1. One-Way ANOVA, Two-way ANOVA, interaction.
  2. Variance components.
  3. Multivariate ANOVA.
  4. Repeated measurement ANOVA.
  5. Model validation, missing values, and the analysis of summary statistics for repeated measurements.
  6. Participating in a workshop consisting of supervised analysis and presentation of own data.

Instructors:  Bo Martin Bibby, Aparna Udupi

Venue: Aarhus University, Aarhus
