A902/02 Research year: peer-feedback is being offered by the Graduate School of Health, Aarhus University, 2024.

This peer-feedback course is only available for research year students. The course is focused on academic and personal development throughout the research year. Students will be put in groups of 4-5 students for the entire year. The groups will meet 4 times, and in the meetings each student will give a short presentation (5-10 minutes) to the group, followed by 20 minutes for feedback. Each group will also have a fixed mentor for the year, who will be responsible for guiding the process during the meetings.

By taking part in this course you will learn to present your research work to others that are not part of your research group. You will learn how to give feedback to others. And you will learn to receive feedback. We aim to create a safe-space within each group, to provide optimal conditions for learning and developing.

The course is coordinated by associate professor Jasper Nijkamp (IKM), in collaboration with the Selskab for Medicinsk Studenterforskning (SMS). There will be preparation for each session, in the form of preparing a presentation, reading texts from your peers, and self-reflection on your own learnings. Unfortunately, you get no ECTS points for this course.

The first meeting will be organized centrally, where all the peer-feedback groups get together. During the meeting we will further introduce to concept of peer-feedback. The three subsequent meetings will need to be organized by the groups themselves, in collaboration with their mentor.

For students that start with their research year in February, the first meeting will be in the first week of April. For students that start in September, the first meeting will be in the first week of November.

Topics that you will present during the meetings are:

Meeting 1: Project plan (early April/November)

Meeting 2: Materials and methods (early June/January)

Meeting 3: Results (September/April)

Meeting 4: Full project presentation (early December/ end June)

Each meeting will take 3-3,5 hours, depending on the group size.

Venue: Aarhus University, Aarhus.

Participation in the course is free of charge for research year students enrolled 1 September 2024
