Criteria for participation
Participation in the course requires completion of ‘Basic Biostatistics’ part 1 and 2 or similar.
The course P130/12 Statistical analysis of time to event data is being offered by the Graduate School of Health, Aarhus University, 2023.
Criteria for participation: University degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or Master’s degree in other fields and/or postgraduate research fellows (PhD students and research-year medical students).
Note! That participation in the course requires completion of ‘Basic Biostatistics’ part 1 and 2 or similar.
Aim: To provide an introduction to the design, analysis and interpretation of time-to-event data.
Learning outcomes:
- Document and handle data needed for a statistical analysis of time-to-event data
- Chose a relevant statistical model for a given research question and evaluate the assumptions of the statistical analysis
- Perform a statistical analysis based on the chosen model
- Describe the results of the statistical analysis, and discuss the results in relation to the scientific question
- Make simple calculations of sample sizes for the planning of a comparative study
Workload: The full workload of the course is expected to be 36 hours
Content: Basic aspects of time-to-event data including censoring, truncation, choice of time scale, and competing risks. Estimation of survival curves, simple and stratified comparisons of survival curves. Sample size calculations for a clinical follow-up study with censored data. Use of Cox regression and the pseudo observation method regression to analyze data with explanatory variables. The statistical software packages R and Stata will be used in the course.
Instructors: Erik Thorlund Parner, Morten Overgaard
Venue: Aarhus University, Aarhus
Participation in the course is without cost for:
- PhD students, Health Research Year students from Aarhus University
- PhD students enrolled at partner universities of the Nordoc collaboration
- PhD students from other institutions in the open market agreement for PhD courses
