The course B313/01 Sex differences in Metabolic and Cardiovascular disease is being offered by the Graduate School of Health, Aarhus University, fall 2022.

Criteria for participation: University degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or Master’s degree in other fields and/or research-year medical students, PhD students and postgraduate research fellows.

Aim: The main aim of the course is to give PhD students and postdoctoral fellows a broad overview of how sex influences the mechanisms behind metabolic and cardiovascular disease. Another important aim is to facilitate the development of novel networks between researchers in the diabetes, cardiovascular and data science fields as well as between basal and clinical researchers.  

Learning outcomes: 

  • To provide insight on how sex influences different pathophysiological aspects of cardiovascular and metabolic disease.
  • To increase awareness and knowledge of the role of sex in metabolic and cardiovascular disease
  • To facilitate networking opportunities with fellow peers and international speakers with both basic, clinical and epidemiological research backgrounds
  • To provide opportunities for researchers to present their projects
  • To evaluate how Data Science can be relevant in the context of your basic and clinical research project

Workload: The full workload of the course is expected to be 29,25 hours.

Content: Presentations from Danish and international experts in different aspects of sex differences in metabolic and cardiovascular disease. Workshop on data science, project pitches and poster presentations.

Participation in the course is without cost for:

  • PhD students, research-year students and research honours programme students from Health, Aarhus University

Course fee:

  • PhD students enrolled at partner universities of the Nordoc collaboration. A payment for accommodation of DKK 2000 will be charged.
  • PhD students from other institutions in the open market agreement for PhD courses. A payment for accommodation of DKK 2000 will be charged.
