The course, C119/96 Datamanagement & Stata, is being offered by the Graduate School of Health, Aarhus University, fall 2022.

Criteria for participation: University degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or Master’s degree in other fields and/or postgraduate research fellows (PhD students and research-year medical students).

It is a prerequisite for participants to know elementary Windows or Mac functions for handling files and folders.

Recommended knowledge for participation: An Introduction to Stata for Health Researchers, Fourth Edition (ebook) by Svend Juul and Morten Frydenberg, can be regarded a nice, but not strictly necessary, supplement to this course. Aim: Introduction to REDCap (eCapture) and, more elaborate, to the statistical package: Stata, and its use in a well-structured and fully documented data handling process. It is highly recommended to take the course before the course in basic biostatistics.

Learning outcomes: Having completed this course the student will be able to:

  • Handle research data in a way that live up to legal- as well as basic scientific requirements
  • Relate to the basic principles of data documentation
  • Relate to Stata’s user-interface and basic functionalities
  • Use Stata’s build-in help system
  • Build well-structured command-files (“do-files”) to enhance transparency and reproducibility

Workload: The full workload of the course is expected to be 14 hours.

Content: This two-day course alternates between lectures and exercise work (50-50%).
